August 6, 2025 | Abuja, Nigeria — In a ceremony underscoring commitment to personnel welfare and motivation within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Monday decorated recipients of the “Police Officer of the Year” award for 2023 and 2024.
The event, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, brought together senior officers, stakeholders in the security sector, and family members of the awardees, celebrating their outstanding performance, dedication, and exemplary service to national security.
IGP Egbetokun described the honourees as shining examples of professionalism and patriotism in policing, stating that their recognition was not only well-deserved but also a signal to others that excellence in service would never go unnoticed.
“These awards are part of the broader reforms in welfare, reward systems, and internal morale boosting initiatives being institutionalized under my leadership,” he said. “We are determined to build a culture that rewards hard work, courage, discipline, and integrity.”
Among the decorated officers were ASP Maryam Danjuma (2023 awardee) and SP Ifeanyi Obi (2024 awardee), both commended for bravery in high-risk operations, effective crime fighting strategies, and commitment to community policing initiatives across their commands.
Egbetokun noted that the ceremony was part of ongoing reforms aimed at humanizing the police force and boosting morale at all ranks. He urged officers to continue upholding the core values of the Force — service, integrity, and excellence.
The awardees received plaques, commendation letters, and special allowances, as the IGP assured that continuous training, welfare improvements, and merit-based recognition would remain a priority of his administration.
The event also featured cultural performances and goodwill messages from civil society representatives and community leaders, applauding the Nigeria Police Force for its evolving standards of accountability and officer welfare.
