Peter Obi Supports Healthcare Education with ₦10m Donation to Anambra Nursing College –

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the Tansian College of Nursing, Oba, Anambra State, as part of his ongoing commitment to education and healthcare development.

Speaking during his visit to the institution on Saturday, Obi emphasized the importance of investing in human capital, particularly in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, which he described as key pillars for national progress.

He urged leaders to prioritize these sectors, noting that quality education remains the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. He further highlighted that nations that have made significant advancements did so by investing heavily in human development.

Presenting the cheque, Obi praised Tansian College of Nursing for its dedication to training healthcare professionals. He stressed that strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system starts with equipping institutions with the necessary resources to produce skilled medical personnel.

Addressing students, he encouraged them to stay focused and work hard, reminding them that an educated and well-trained population is essential for building a prosperous and stable society.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, expressed profound gratitude for Obi’s consistent support.

“Your philanthropy has made a significant difference in our institution, and we deeply appreciate your dedication to education and healthcare development,” Nwadialor said.

He also drew attention to 38 nursing students who had been beneficiaries of the late Monsignor Johnbosco Akam’s scholarship but were now struggling to continue their education due to financial constraints. He appealed to Obi for further assistance to help them complete their studies.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor invited Obi to be the Special Guest of Honour at the university’s convocation ceremony on March 29, 2025, stating that his presence would greatly inspire the students and enrich the event.

The donation ceremony was attended by university staff, students, and dignitaries, who commended Obi’s continued support for education across Nigeria. Many acknowledged that his contributions have positively impacted the lives of young people and strengthened the nation’s educational system.

Obi was accompanied by his former commissioners, including Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Prof. Patrick Obi, and Ndubisi Menakaya.
