Peter Obi Visits Plateau Victims, Donates N7.5 Million Amidst Calls for Peace and Security

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi recently embarked on a condolence visit to Plateau State, where he met with victims of the recent attacks in the Bokkos area. During his visit, Obi expressed deep sadness over the “senseless killings” that have ravaged communities, leaving many displaced and grieving. He emphasized that no Nigerian should live in fear in their own country, stressing the need for purposeful governance and decisive action to end such violence.

Obi traveled from Abuja to Jos, the state capital, where he met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang before proceeding to Bokkos. There, he spent time with victims, including displaced children and families who have lost loved ones. In a gesture of solidarity, Obi donated N7.5 million to support the internally displaced persons (IDPs), focusing on providing facilities for displaced children and sustaining their education.

This visit follows Obi’s earlier condemnation of the attacks, where he questioned the normalization of violence in Nigeria. He urged the government to take concrete steps to prevent future occurrences and ensure justice for those affected. The Obidient Movement, associated with Obi, had previously built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, further demonstrating their commitment to supporting those affected by the violence.

Obi’s call for urgent government action resonates with the broader concerns about insecurity in Nigeria. Communities across the country, including those in Plateau, Benue, Enugu, and Anambra, are increasingly living in fear due to persistent attacks and kidnappings. As the situation continues to deteriorate, Obi’s visit and donation serve as a reminder of the need for collective action towards peace and justice in Nigeria.
