Plateau NYSC Coordinator Seeks Military Support for Corps Members’ Safety

JOS, July 24, 2025 – The Plateau State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Yavana Jonathan, has appealed to the Nigerian Army to intensify its support for corps members serving in the state, particularly in the areas of security and welfare.

The appeal was made during her courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, located at Rukuba Barracks, near Jos. Mrs. Jonathan acknowledged the longstanding cooperation between the NYSC and the military but stressed the need for strengthened collaboration in light of the prevailing security challenges across the state.

She emphasized that corps members, who have left their homes to serve the country in unfamiliar terrains, deserve adequate protection and support to perform their national duties effectively. “The safety and welfare of our corps members remain a top priority, and we count on the Nigerian Army’s continued partnership to ensure they carry out their assignments in a secure environment,” she stated.

In response, officers of the 3 Division assured the NYSC of their unwavering commitment to safeguarding corps members. They reaffirmed that military patrols and community engagement efforts are being reinforced, particularly in areas with heightened security risks.

The visit underscores growing concerns about the safety of youth corps members nationwide, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and inter-agency cooperation to uphold the integrity of the national service scheme.
