Police Arrest 7 Suspects Over Murder of Lagos Engineer in Land Dispute

Lagos, July 8, 2025 — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals in connection with the brutal murder of an engineer identified as Mr. Emmanuel Eze, who was allegedly killed over a land dispute in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2025, when the deceased reportedly visited a construction site to inspect a disputed property. Eyewitnesses said he was ambushed and attacked by armed thugs allegedly hired by rival land claimants. He died at the scene from multiple injuries before help could arrive.

Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday, confirmed the arrest of the suspects during a targeted operation by officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.

“Following credible intelligence, operatives of the SCID arrested seven suspects linked to the murder of Engineer Emmanuel Eze during a violent altercation over land ownership. Preliminary investigations show the killing was premeditated,” Hundeyin stated.

The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case and identify the masterminds who allegedly sponsored the attack. He also noted that weapons, including machetes and locally made firearms, were recovered during the arrests.

The Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has assured the victim’s family that justice will be served and warned land grabbers and criminal elements to steer clear of violent methods in settling property disputes.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while the suspects remain in custody pending arraignment.
