Police Arrest Car Thieves, Turn Down ₦1m Bribe

Two suspected car thieves have been apprehended by the Katsina State Police Command, which also rejected a bribe of one million naira offered by the suspects in a bid to evade justice. The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on April 11, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM, when officers attached to the Border Patrol Zone 4 in Katsina were on routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village in Mashi Local Government Area. The police flagged down a green Toyota Corolla LE, driven by 26-year-old Mubarak Kabir and 27-year-old Adamu Hashim, both from Kurna quarters, Fagge Local Government Area in Kano State.

In a desperate attempt to avoid arrest, the suspects offered the officers a bribe of ₦1,000,000. However, the police team rejected the bribe, demonstrating their commitment to upholding the law. The two suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.

In addition to the stolen vehicle, the police recovered ₦1,000,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a set of car keys from the suspects.
