Police Arrest Five for Diverting ₦184 Million Worth of Agrochemicals in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the diversion and illegal sale of agrochemical products valued at ₦184 million.

According to police authorities, the suspects allegedly diverted a truckload of 1,925 cartons of Roundup 360XL herbicide, originally consigned to Springfield Agro Limited, a Lagos-based company. The truck was reportedly en route to Suleja and Abuja before being diverted to Birnin Kebbi.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, stated on Thursday that the suspects were apprehended following a report by the company and subsequent investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Those arrested include Nura Abdullahi (45), Nura Muhammad (50), Bashar Abubakar (45), and Sanusi Bojo (43), all from Birnin Kebbi, along with Aliyu Muhammad (48) from Kashin Zama village in Aliero Local Government Area.

The police recovered 1,562 cartons of the herbicide and ₦4.9 million in cash, believed to be part of the proceeds from the illegal sales.

The truck driver, identified as Alhaji Bala, alleged to be the mastermind behind the diversion, remains at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and recover the remaining products.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, praised the detectives for their swift action and assured the public that those found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.
