Police Bust Illegal Fertiliser Factory, Arrest Five in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully dismantled an illegal fertiliser manufacturing operation, arresting five suspects and seizing large quantities of counterfeit fertiliser and related materials.

The operation followed intelligence reports received by the Command’s Monitoring Unit, leading to the arrest of Muhammad Abubakar at his residence in Magaji Quarters. Officers recovered six bags of suspected fake fertiliser, 46 bottles of counterfeit herbicides, and various equipment used in the production process.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Anas Abubakar at a shop on Gombe Road, where over 40 bags of adulterated fertiliser were confiscated. Anas admitted to blending moulded kaolin with urea to produce fake fertiliser and named Abdulrahaman Muhammad, a supplier of raw materials, as an accomplice.

Police also arrested Ziya’u Bala, who provided information about an illegal fertiliser factory in Natsira Hamlet, Kangere Village. A raid at the site uncovered about 100 bags of adulterated fertiliser along with additional raw materials. Subsequent operations revealed two more illegal production hubs operated by Sama’ila Abdullahi and Mujahid Abdullahi, both implicated in the supply chain.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, confirmed that all suspects would face prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting agricultural integrity and safeguarding public health.

This successful crackdown highlights ongoing efforts by the Bauchi State Police to combat fraudulent agricultural practices and ensure the safety of the farming community.
