Lagos, July 10, 2025 — In preparation for Saturday’s local government elections, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a total vehicular movement restriction from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 12, applying statewide—including roads and waterways. The measure, announced on Wednesday, aims to maintain order and enhance security during polling.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh confirmed that only vehicles involved in essential services—such as ambulances, fire response units—along with accredited LASIEC officials, election observers, and media personnel, will be permitted movement, provided they carry valid identification tags certified by LASIEC .
The police also banned armed escorts, covered number plates, and siren use near polling units and collation centres. Officials cautioned that all other vehicles, including those of state security outfits, are barred from the roads during the restriction period .
In addition to movement restrictions, the police said they have deployed additional personnel, including anti-riot squads and officers from neighbouring states, under the Inter‑agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), to key polling areas across Lagos .
The command has also issued stern warnings to political thugs and miscreants, urging them to stay away from electoral venues and face immediate arrest if caught violating the rules .
Residents have been advised to plan their activities and cooperate with security personnel. Anyone who observes suspicious behaviour has been encouraged to report immediately via designated hotlines: 08063299264 or 08065154338 .
