Police Clarifies Peaceful Protest by Retired Officers, Pledges Security and Respect for Their Dignity

The Nigeria Police Force has issued an official statement addressing the recent peaceful protest staged by a group of retired police officers, setting the record straight on the circumstances surrounding the demonstration and reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding their rights and dignity.

The protest, held earlier this week in various parts of the country, saw retired personnel voicing concerns over delayed pension payments and welfare issues. In response, the Force Headquarters clarified that the retirees had the right to peaceful assembly, as guaranteed under the Constitution, and that the protest was conducted in an orderly manner without any breach of public peace.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spoke on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, stated that the protest was closely monitored to ensure it remained peaceful, and that no attempt was made to disrupt or intimidate the retired officers.

“The Nigeria Police Force holds its veterans in high regard. Their contributions to national security will never be forgotten. We recognize their grievances and assure them that the concerns raised have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities for urgent attention,” Adejobi said.

He further emphasized the Force’s ongoing collaboration with relevant government agencies to address the legitimate demands of the retirees. He also called on the protesters to remain law-abiding and trust in the due process being pursued to resolve the matter.

The police assured the public that all necessary security measures remain in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order during peaceful protests while preserving the dignity of every Nigerian citizen, particularly those who served the nation diligently.
