Anambra State, July 1, 2025 — The Anambra State Police Command has strongly condemned the recent deadly shooting in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area, which left residents in shock and mourning. The Command has vowed to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 30, when unknown gunmen stormed a part of the community, shooting sporadically and reportedly killing at least one person while leaving several others injured. Eyewitnesses say the attackers opened fire without provocation, creating chaos and panic as residents fled for safety.
Reacting to the attack, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the act as “heinous and cowardly,” stressing that the command has already launched a full-scale investigation into the matter. He assured residents that efforts are underway to identify, locate, and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
“We are not taking this lightly. Our operatives are already on the ground, and tactical teams have been deployed to ensure that the perpetrators of this wicked act are fished out,” Ikenga said in a statement.
He further appealed to the public for calm and cooperation, urging anyone with useful information to assist law enforcement in their ongoing operation. “We need the support of the public to swiftly bring the culprits to book. All credible information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.”
Community leaders in Ogboji have also condemned the incident, calling for improved security presence and swift justice for the victims. The attack has reignited concerns over the activities of armed groups in some parts of Anambra, prompting calls for intensified intelligence gathering and community-police collaboration.
As investigations continue, the Anambra Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and order in the state, assuring citizens that no stone would be left unturned in the quest for justice.
