In a significant breakthrough against criminal operations in Delta State, the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment team has successfully uncovered several kidnapping hideouts, resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of dangerous weapons.
According to information gathered, a special operation conducted on March 26, 2025, led by ASP Julius Robinson, expanded its investigation into Rivers State while tracking suspected kidnappers. The operatives successfully apprehended one Chedeye Mohammed, who was attempting to flee from authorities.
During questioning, the suspect led police officers to a concealed location near a trailer park in Rivers State where their weapons cache was hidden. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
“Initial findings reveal that the suspect and his associates typically conduct kidnapping operations in Ughelli, Agbarho, and surrounding areas of Delta State before retreating to safe houses in Rivers State,” our correspondent learnt from reliable sources within the command.
The CP-Special Assignment team also conducted a separate intelligence-driven operation in Anyigba town, Kogi State, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: 31-year-old Zakari Mohammed from Olugbujo community, 29-year-old Ibrahim Mumuni, and 25-year-old Mohammed Hamisu, both from Anyigba town in Dekina Local Government Area. Following a properly executed search warrant, operatives discovered and seized an AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump action gun from their residence.
Further intelligence led to the apprehension of 35-year-old Samaila Mohammed from Udo community in the same local government area. A Baretta pistol loaded with three rounds of ammunition and additional cartridges were recovered from his possession.
In a related development on March 25, 2025, at approximately 6:20 PM, operatives acting on credible intelligence conducted a covert operation in Olomoro community, Isoko South LGA. This operation resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Emu Lucky, a native of Igbide community. During a thorough search of his premises, authorities discovered 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Investigations have established that Emu Lucky was collaborating with Mohammed Bello, a suspected kidnapper already in police custody. Mohammed Bello reportedly served as an intermediary between the arms supplier and various kidnapping gangs operating in the region.
The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reassured residents that these intensive security operations will continue. “We remain committed to fulfilling the mandate given by the Inspector General of Police—ensuring that all Deltans and residents in the state can sleep peacefully with both eyes closed,” the Commissioner stated.
The police chief has called for continued partnership and cooperation from all Delta State residents as the command intensifies its fight against criminal elements in the state.
All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend remaining gang members.
