Police Raid ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ Training Centre in Lagos, Arrest 10 Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an illegal cybercrime training facility, popularly known as a ‘Yahoo Yahoo school,’ operating in the Iju area of Lagos. The police stormed the facility, arresting 10 suspects, including four trainers and six trainees, aged between 12 and 26 years.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the syndicate was actively grooming young individuals in various forms of internet fraud. Investigations revealed that the ringleaders recruited their trainees from Anambra State and exploited them for fraudulent activities while keeping the proceeds for themselves.

Minors Forced Into Cybercrime

Shockingly, among the suspects was a 12-year-old boy, who was reportedly subjected to physical abuse by the syndicate in an attempt to force him into crime. He was found with visible injuries and is currently receiving medical attention while under protective custody as efforts are underway to locate his family.

Crackdown on Cybercrime Networks

The police confirmed that all 10 suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities are also working to identify the financiers and key masterminds behind the operation, including the owner of the property used for the illegal activities.

“The owner of the premises is advised to report to the SCID in Yaba immediately. Law enforcement will not relent in ensuring that all those involved in this crime are brought to justice,” the police statement warned.

Additionally, victims of the syndicate’s fraudulent activities have been urged to report to the SCID Yaba with relevant complaints or evidence.

Authorities Tighten Surveillance on Cybercrime Training Camps

This latest crackdown reflects the Lagos State Police Command’s ongoing effort to dismantle cybercrime networks, particularly those targeting vulnerable youths. The police reaffirmed their commitment to curbing ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ activities, warning that anyone found promoting, financing, or participating in such criminal enterprises will face the full weight of the law.

The investigation remains ongoing as security operatives intensify efforts to track and arrest other members of the syndicate operating within and beyond Lagos State.
