The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of significant breakthroughs in its ongoing nationwide operations against crime, including the rescue of a kidnapped child in Katsina, the arrest of a fake kidnap gang, and the dismantling of a cyber-fraud syndicate in Jigawa State with over $46,000 in fake foreign currency recovered.
In Katsina State, officers of the Command successfully uncovered a disturbing plot involving a staged kidnapping. The case was first reported on February 20, 2025, by one Alhaji Badamasi Bala of Madaci Yan Nono Quarters, who informed authorities that his 14-year-old daughter and her 4-year-old sister had both gone missing. After a period of four months, the older girl reappeared and during police interrogation confessed to conniving with three accomplices aged 25, 19, and 16 to fake the abduction. The plan was reportedly aimed at extorting ransom from their own family. All four suspects have since been apprehended, and the younger child was rescued safely and returned to her family without physical harm.
In a separate operation in Nasarawa State, police operatives intercepted a suspected arms trafficker along the Giza–Kadarko Road in Keana Local Government Area. The suspect, who was riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, reportedly fled into a nearby forest upon sighting law enforcement officers. A thorough search of the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 45 rounds of live 7.62x39mm ammunition. A manhunt has since been launched for the fleeing suspect, as police intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal arms trafficking networks across the region.
Further afield in Jigawa State, the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a targeted raid on June 13, 2025, in Kankare and Zurkuda villages within Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. The joint operation led to the arrest of seven individuals believed to be members of a sophisticated fraud syndicate. Items recovered at the scene include counterfeit U.S. currency amounting to $46,100, four point-of-sale (POS) terminals, 13 Android smartphones, 29 keypad mobile phones, six power banks, two vehicle license plates, and several documents suspected to be linked to various cyber and financial crimes.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in an official statement released from Force Headquarters in Abuja on June 21, 2025, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to combating all forms of crime through intelligence-led operations and rapid response strategies. He emphasized that these successful operations were the result of timely information, strategic inter-agency collaboration, and robust community engagement.
ACP Adejobi also quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, as commending the efforts of officers across the affected commands. The IGP urged citizens to continue supporting the police with credible information while remaining law-abiding and vigilant in their communities.
The series of coordinated actions by the Force once again highlights its commitment to securing lives and property and ensuring a safer society for all Nigerians.
