Polytechnics Seek REA’s Solar Power Intervention to Boost Energy Supply

The Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria have appealed to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to intervene in their energy supply challenges by providing solar power solutions. The polytechnics, which are spread across the country, have been facing significant energy supply challenges, which have impacted their academic and administrative activities. In a bid to address this challenge, the polytechnics have turned to the REA, which has been at the forefront of promoting off-grid energy solutions in Nigeria. The REA has been implementing various initiatives aimed at increasing energy access in unserved and underserved communities. One of its flagship programs is the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), which aims to provide energy access to 500,000 households and 20,000 businesses across the country. Under the NEP, the REA has successfully deployed solar hybrid mini-grids and standalone solar home systems in various communities. The agency has also provided funding and technical support to private sector developers to promote the growth of the off-grid energy market. The polytechnics’ appeal to the REA for solar power intervention is a welcome development, as it aligns with the government’s efforts to promote renewable energy and increase energy access. With the REA’s support, the polytechnics can reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainable development. This will not only improve their energy supply but also contribute to the country’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The REA has expressed its commitment to supporting the polytechnics in addressing their energy supply challenges. The agency has promised to work closely with the polytechnics to develop a tailored solar power solution that meets their energy needs.
