Power Minister Adelabu Declares 2027 Oyo Gubernatorial Ambition, Begins Stakeholder Consultations

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The declaration marks the beginning of widespread consultations with key political stakeholders across the state.

Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a 2019 APC governorship candidate, confirmed his ambition during a closed-door meeting with party leaders and supporters in Ibadan, the state capital.

Sources close to the campaign revealed that six out of the eight APC members currently representing Oyo State in the House of Representatives have already pledged their support for Adelabu’s candidacy. They reportedly praised his performance as Minister of Power, citing improvements in national electricity reforms and infrastructure under his watch.

Adelabu’s entry into the race is expected to reshape the political landscape in Oyo, particularly within the APC, where discussions about consensus candidates and power rotation are already underway.

While the official APC primary is still months away, Adelabu’s early start and growing support base suggest that his campaign is set to be one of the major forces to watch in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
