Pray for Nigeria, Support Our Leaders, NAHCON Chair Urges Pilgrims in Mina

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, has called on Nigerian pilgrims performing the 2025 Hajj to offer prayers for the country and its leaders, emphasizing the need for divine guidance in achieving good governance and national development.

Usman made this appeal during a visit to the tents of pilgrims from the North-West region in Mina, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. He stressed the importance of spiritual backing for leadership, citing Saudi Arabia as a model where religious leaders regularly pray for those in power.

“The success of our leaders is tied to our nation’s success,” he said. “We must pray for them. If you wish them good or bad, it reflects on the entire country.”

The NAHCON boss explained that his visit was part of efforts to monitor pilgrims’ welfare, gather firsthand feedback, and ensure prompt intervention where necessary. He also urged pilgrims to obey Saudi laws and always carry their identification cards, noting that they represent Nigeria abroad and must act as worthy ambassadors.

Commending the smooth execution of the 2025 Hajj operations, Usman credited the success to strong collaboration among stakeholders.

Also speaking during the visit, the Amirul Hajj of Katsina State and Deputy Governor, Faruk Lawal, lauded NAHCON’s performance. He, however, advocated for a unified visa process to minimize delays and boost operational efficiency.

NAHCON Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate, and Licensing, Anofiu Elegushi, advised pilgrims to travel light and avoid carrying excess luggage. He reminded them that each pilgrim would be provided with five litres of Zamzam water, eliminating the need to include it in their baggage.

On the recent fire outbreak at a pilgrims’ hotel in Makkah, Elegushi confirmed that no lives were lost and that all affected pilgrims had been safely relocated to new accommodations.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Olanrewaju Layode, expressed his appreciation for NAHCON’s efforts and pledged continued collaboration. He also encouraged pilgrims to remain united and exhibit tolerance throughout their spiritual journey and beyond.
