The Nigerian Presidency has strongly refuted allegations by activist Omoyele Sowore that President Bola Tinubu traveled to France for medical treatment. According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s trip, which began on April 2, 2025, is a working visit aimed at reviewing ongoing reforms and engaging in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary.
Presidential aide Daniel Bwala emphasized that there is no truth to the claim that Tinubu is in France for medical reasons. Bwala pointed out that the president’s activities during the trip have been publicly disclosed, underscoring its official nature.
Sowore had earlier alleged on his Facebook page that Tinubu’s trip was for medical care, criticizing what he described as a pattern of misinformation from the government. However, the Presidency maintains that such claims are unfounded and part of speculative social media chatter.
This latest trip marks Tinubu’s seventh visit to France since taking office in May 2023, with a total of nine trips to the country since March 2023. While some of these trips have been officially described as working visits, others have been reported to include medical components, sparking concerns about transparency regarding the president’s health status.
Despite these concerns, the Presidency remains firm that Tinubu’s current visit is purely for official business and not related to health issues. The president is expected to return to Nigeria by April 16, 2025.
