President Tinubu Approves Nationwide Paramilitary Recruitment Drive

Abuja, Nigeria – June 9, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the commencement of a new round of recruitment into Nigeria’s paramilitary agencies, as part of efforts to strengthen national security, create job opportunities, and address the growing need for improved service delivery across various federal institutions.

The approval, confirmed by senior government officials on Monday, covers several paramilitary agencies including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).

Sources within the Ministry of Interior noted that the recruitment exercise is aimed at filling critical manpower gaps in the security and emergency response sectors, especially in light of evolving national threats and the increasing demands placed on public institutions.

“The President has given the green light for a transparent and merit-based recruitment process across our paramilitary agencies. This move is consistent with his Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that Nigerians are not only safer, but also actively engaged in national development,” a top Interior Ministry official disclosed.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) is expected to coordinate the exercise, and candidates will be required to apply through official online portals once the application window opens. The board assured that the process would be guided by principles of equity, federal character, and due diligence to ensure only qualified and capable Nigerians are enlisted.

This development has sparked excitement among many young Nigerians seeking employment, especially in rural areas where job opportunities remain limited. Analysts also see it as a timely intervention to reduce youth unemployment and strengthen the nation’s internal security architecture.

While specific dates and guidelines for the recruitment are yet to be officially announced, the Ministry of Interior is expected to release a public statement in the coming days outlining the timeline and eligibility criteria.

Stakeholders have welcomed the move, urging the federal government to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the exercise to avoid the controversies and irregularities that have marred past recruitment efforts.

The initiative is seen as another demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to reforming Nigeria’s public institutions and restoring confidence in the nation’s security and civil services.
