President Tinubu Arrives Lagos Ahead of ECOWAS 50th Anniversary Celebration

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), scheduled to hold on Wednesday, May 29, 2025.

The President’s aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, at approximately 4:15 PM. He was received by a delegation of top government officials, including Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; key members of the Presidential Advance Team; and senior security officers.

President Tinubu, who currently serves as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, is expected to play a central role in the landmark celebration, which will gather leaders and delegates from across the West African sub-region. The golden jubilee commemoration will reflect on the achievements, challenges, and the future of regional cooperation and integration among ECOWAS member states.

The 50th anniversary celebration is being hosted in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, in recognition of the nation’s founding role in the establishment of ECOWAS on May 28, 1975. The event will feature high-level dialogues, cultural exhibitions, and strategic sessions aimed at strengthening economic ties, regional peacekeeping efforts, and development cooperation.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a keynote address during the opening ceremony, highlighting Nigeria’s enduring commitment to the vision of a united, prosperous, and peaceful West Africa.

Security has been heightened across strategic locations in Lagos in anticipation of the regional leaders’ arrival and to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
