President Tinubu Commissions Landmark Overpass in Lafia, Named in His Honour

LAFIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, paid a working visit to Nasarawa State, where he formally commissioned the newly completed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Bridge, a dual-purpose overpass and underpass infrastructure project located in Lafia, the state capital.

The bridge, named in honour of the president, is a major component of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s infrastructure development blueprint aimed at easing urban traffic flow, boosting economic activity, and improving transportation access within the rapidly growing capital city.

President Tinubu, who was received by top state officials, traditional rulers, and cheering residents, expressed appreciation for the recognition and commended the Nasarawa State Government for its vision and commitment to infrastructural development.

“This project is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when leadership is focused, disciplined, and people-centered. I am honoured by the gesture and I reaffirm this administration’s support for states that are delivering impactful projects,” Tinubu said during the ceremony.

Governor Sule described the bridge as a “signature legacy project,” noting that its successful completion marks a new chapter in Nasarawa’s urban transformation efforts. He said the project was executed to address the growing vehicular congestion in Lafia and to open up new commercial corridors within the city.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Bridge spans a critical junction within the city, linking key districts and markets. It features modern road markings, street lighting, pedestrian sidewalks, and reinforced underpass drainage to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Residents who spoke to reporters expressed excitement over the president’s visit and the new infrastructure, noting that the bridge would reduce travel time, enhance safety, and attract more investment into the state.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including federal cabinet members, lawmakers, and traditional rulers from across the North-Central region.

President Tinubu’s visit to Nasarawa is part of a broader engagement tour to inaugurate strategic projects and promote federal-state collaboration on national development priorities.
