President Tinubu to Visit Benue Following Fresh Wave of Attacks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a visit to Benue State in response to the recent spate of violent attacks that have rocked several communities across the state.

Presidency sources confirmed that the visit is scheduled to take place within the coming days, although an official itinerary has yet to be released. The visit follows renewed killings and displacement of residents in parts of Gwer West, Apa, and Guma local government areas, allegedly perpetrated by suspected armed herders.

According to reports, dozens have been killed and thousands forced to flee their homes in the latest escalation of violence. The President’s visit aims to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground, meet with state officials, and express federal commitment to addressing the crisis.

Tinubu is expected to meet with Governor Hyacinth Alia, community leaders, security agencies, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the visit. The move is seen as a response to growing calls from civil society groups, traditional rulers, and religious organizations urging the federal government to take urgent and decisive action to restore peace in the region.

Meanwhile, security has been intensified in the affected areas, with the Nigerian Army, Police, and local vigilantes conducting joint patrols to deter further violence.

The Presidency has also reiterated its commitment to fostering reconciliation and ensuring that lasting peace returns to Benue and other conflict-prone states in the country.
