During a recent meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called on Nigerians to embrace the country’s rich cultural and religious diversity as a driving force for unity, peace, and economic development.
Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its plurality and urged all faith leaders to play a pivotal role in fostering dialogue and understanding among communities.
“Our diversity is not a liability but a tremendous asset,” the President said. “If we can harness our differences—whether ethnic, religious, or cultural, we will build a more prosperous, peaceful, and inclusive nation for all Nigerians.”
He acknowledged the influential role of the Catholic Church in promoting social justice, education, and moral values across the country, and encouraged continued collaboration between the government and religious institutions to tackle pressing national challenges.
The President’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria faces complex issues ranging from security concerns to economic recovery. He urged faith leaders to be agents of reconciliation and advocates for responsible citizenship.
The Catholic Bishops welcomed the President’s message, affirming their commitment to working with the government to promote unity, peace, and sustainable development. The meeting also provided a platform for open dialogue on matters affecting the nation, including poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and interfaith harmony.
As Nigeria continues on its path toward growth and stability, the partnership between the government and religious bodies remains vital in nurturing a cohesive society where diversity is celebrated and harnessed for collective progress.
