Abuja, Nigeria – July 5, 2025
Growing pressure is being placed on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the long-awaited forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), following allegations that a company associated with the wife of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, allegedly received ₦4 million monthly from the agency.
This renewed demand for transparency comes amid increasing concerns over mismanagement and corruption within the NDDC—an institution established to address the developmental challenges in Nigeria’s oil-producing region.
According to insider reports, the audit uncovered suspicious transactions, including recurring monthly payments to the said company without clear justification. The forensic audit, commissioned under the previous administration, was aimed at unraveling years of alleged financial impropriety and stalled projects within the commission.
Despite being concluded and submitted to the Presidency, the report has yet to be made public—fueling suspicions and criticism from civil society groups, anti-graft advocates, and Niger Delta stakeholders who insist that justice and accountability are long overdue.
They argue that the continued secrecy around the findings undermines the government’s anti-corruption drive and deprives the public of the opportunity to know the full extent of rot in the NDDC.
Stakeholders are now urging President Tinubu to act decisively by releasing the audit findings, ensuring that those indicted face consequences, and restoring confidence in the commission’s mandate to serve the people of the Niger Delta.
So far, the Presidency has made no official statement regarding the audit’s status or the specific allegations linked to Amaechi’s wife.
