Protest Erupts in Abuja Over Cybercrime Act, Economic Hardship, and Other Issues

A nationwide protest led by the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement and various civil society organizations has officially commenced in Abuja. The demonstration, which began on Monday, April 7, 2025, is aimed at highlighting multiple national concerns, including the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act, the escalating economic hardship in the country, and what the organizers have described as a “state of emergency” in Rivers State.

Protesters gathered in the Federal Capital Territory, carrying placards with slogans such as “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe,” expressing their frustration over the government’s policies. Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was among those spotted at the protest, offering his solidarity with the movement.

In a statement issued on Friday, Juwon Sanyaolu, the National Coordinator of the Take-It-Back Movement, emphasized the necessity of the protest, calling it a stand against what he termed the “increasing authoritarianism” of the government. Sanyaolu also highlighted the urgent need for relief for Nigerians struggling with inflation and insecurity.
