PSAP Participants Engage in Team-Bonding to Strengthen Public Sector Collaboration

MAGODO, LAGOS — Participants of the Lagos State Public Service Accelerator Programme (PSAP) have engaged in a purposeful team-bonding exercise aimed at fostering collaboration, enhancing interpersonal skills, and reinforcing the core values of effective public service delivery.

The session, which took place earlier this week at the PSAP training facility in Magodo, was part of the ongoing leadership development programme designed to prepare mid-level public servants for high-impact roles within the state’s administrative structure.

Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training, the team-building activity featured a series of structured games, group tasks, and problem-solving exercises. These activities were carefully designed to deepen trust, encourage strategic thinking, and promote effective communication among civil servants from different ministries and departments.

Addressing participants, a senior programme facilitator highlighted the importance of soft skills in driving performance and innovation within the public sector. “Technical competence alone is no longer sufficient. Today’s public servant must be agile, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent to meet the growing demands of governance,” she said.

Participants were grouped into cross-functional teams and engaged in real-time simulations that required cooperation, creative thinking, and mutual accountability. The atmosphere was lively and energising, as attendees embraced the opportunity to interact beyond their regular work environments.

One of the participants, Mrs. Adebayo Yetunde from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, described the experience as refreshing and impactful. “This session reminded us that effective teamwork can break silos and boost collective productivity. It was a practical lesson in leadership and trust-building,” she said.

The Public Service Accelerator Programme, which is part of the broader transformation agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, aims to bridge performance gaps within the civil service by equipping officers with both technical knowledge and adaptive leadership skills.

According to the organisers, the team-bonding component complements the programme’s academic modules and reflects a growing recognition that workplace cohesion is central to achieving long-term reform goals in public administration.

The session concluded with a call to participants to apply the lessons learned not just within the programme but in their respective MDAs, to foster a more responsive and citizen-focused public service.
