PSG Close to Signing Lille Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier Amid Uncertainty Over Donnarumma’s Future

Paris, August 8, 2025

Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced negotiations to sign Lille’s standout goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, according to multiple reports, in a move that raises fresh uncertainty over the future of current No. 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 23-year-old Chevalier is expected to join the French champions on a deal worth approximately €40 million, with a contract running until 2030, sources close to the matter confirmed Friday. The transfer is not yet finalized but is reportedly close to completion.

Chevalier, widely regarded as one of France’s most promising goalkeepers, kept 13 clean sheets in 48 appearances for Lille last season and has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs. PSG appears to have moved swiftly to secure his services amid lingering questions over Donnarumma’s long-term future in Paris.

Donnarumma, 26, remains under contract at the Parc des Princes until June 2026. However, talks over a contract extension have stalled in recent months due to disagreements over wage structure, with the club reportedly shifting towards a performance-based pay model. The Italian international has not ruled out a departure, and clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan are said to be monitoring the situation closely.

While PSG are keen to retain Donnarumma, the potential arrival of Chevalier is seen as a proactive step to secure the club’s goalkeeping future should negotiations break down.

Reports circulating on Friday also claimed Donnarumma played a pivotal role in a 5–0 Champions League final win over Inter Milan in May, but no official record or match report confirms such a result, and the scoreline appears to be inaccurate.

For now, Chevalier’s move signals a possible shift in PSG’s long-term planning, with the club reinforcing key positions amid a summer of recalibration following their European success.
