Anchorage, Alaska — August 16, 2025 | Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage for crucial talks aimed at brokering a ceasefire in Russia’s war with Ukraine.
The historic face-to-face meeting, which began on August 15, is being closely monitored by global powers as both leaders attempt to explore terms that could ease one of the most devastating conflicts in recent history.
White House officials explained that Anchorage was deliberately chosen as a neutral setting on U.S. soil, far from Washington’s political spotlight, to provide a more discreet environment for dialogue. The discussions are expected to focus on ceasefire conditions, humanitarian corridors, and possible frameworks for long-term peace negotiations.
While the Kremlin hailed the talks as “a critical step toward peace,” U.S. officials reiterated that any progress must safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Alaska summit has stirred both anticipation and skepticism worldwide, with analysts warning that deep-rooted mistrust between Moscow, Washington, and Kyiv could complicate chances of an immediate breakthrough.
Diplomatic observers, however, noted that the meeting itself represents a rare opening in a conflict that has tested international diplomacy, disrupted global supply chains, and triggered one of the largest refugee crises in Europe since World War II.
