Raducanu’s Miami Open Run Ends with Narrow Quarter-Final Defeat

Emma Raducanu’s impressive Miami Open campaign came to a close on Wednesday, as she suffered a narrow quarter-final defeat to world number four Jessica Pegula. Despite requiring medical treatment during the match, Raducanu showed remarkable fortitude to level the contest, but ultimately fell short, losing 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-2.

The 22-year-old Briton’s run to the quarter-finals was her best performance at a WTA 1000 event, and she will return to the top 50 of the WTA rankings next week. Raducanu’s victory over Pegula in the second set, where she played some of her best tennis since winning the 2021 US Open, was a highlight of the match.

Pegula, the US Open runner-up, praised Raducanu’s performance, saying, “It was tough. I just wanted to come out in the third set really strong, really quick, and jump on her.” The American will face 19-year-old Alexandra Eala from the Philippines in the semi-finals on Friday.

Raducanu’s Miami Open campaign was marked by impressive victories over top-20 opponents Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova. Her run to the quarter-finals was a testament to her growing resilience and ability to compete with the world’s best.

The Briton will now look to build on her improved level and deliver greater consistency as she moves onto the European clay-court swing next month.
