Fasting during Ramadan is beyond just skipping food; it triggers a complex set of physiological changes in the body, impacting cellular repair and potentially offering various health benefits.
Islam emphasizes the importance of the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of an individual
When done appropriately, fasting can enhance longevity.
The following are some of the health benefits of fasting.
🕳Weight Loss: Fasting helps to burn excessive fats naturally. If you’ve been struggling to reduce weight or burn threatening fats, Ramadan fasting is here to help.
🕳Fasting prevents Chronic diseases; Avoiding the intake of food and drinks for some time allows the body to initiate cellular repair. This helps to prevent chronic diseases.
🕳Improves Brain Function: Research has shown that fasting helps to improve brain function.
Fasting may also help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain.
🕳Fasting increases Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels, which can help neurons survive and grow new neurons and synapses.
🕳Reduced inflammation;
Neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are linked to chronic inflammation.
During fasting, cells remove and recycle damaged components, which helps protect the brain from age-related degeneration.
🕳Improved metabolic health;
Fasting can improve insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, which is linked to neurodegenerative diseases.
🕳blood sugar control
🕳Fasting helps regulate the circadian rhythm and improve the quality of sleep.
To maximise these benefits, be sure to take note of the following;
- Do not break your fast with carbonated drinks
- Maintain proper hydration by drinking enough water during sahur and iftar. Fruits like watermelon and unsweetened beverages can also help.
- Focus on a balanced diet while breaking your fast. The prophet (S.A.W) recommend Dates. Normalize eating fruits prepared under hygienic conditions.
- Finally, consult a doctor before fasting, especially if you have underlying health conditions. Always consult a healthcare professional to ensure it is safe.
May Allah ease our affairs and accept our strives.
