Reappointed N-HYPPADEC MD Vows Greater Impact in Power-Producing Communities

Abuja, August 27, 2025 — The reappointed Managing Director of the Niger Delta Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has pledged to consolidate on his achievements while deepening the commission’s impact across host communities of hydroelectric power projects in Nigeria.

Speaking shortly after his reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yelwa expressed gratitude for the renewed confidence reposed in his leadership and assured that N-HYPPADEC would intensify development interventions to address the peculiar challenges of hydroelectric power-producing areas.

He noted that the commission would scale up initiatives in critical sectors, including rural electrification, environmental protection, water supply, healthcare, education, and job creation, to uplift the living standards of host communities. According to him, the mandate of N-HYPPADEC remains focused on alleviating the socio-economic hardships caused by flooding, displacement, and ecological degradation in riverine communities.

“Our commitment is to ensure that communities bearing the burden of hydroelectric power production enjoy the benefits of inclusive growth, infrastructure renewal, and human capital development. This renewed mandate gives us the strength to do more and deliver lasting results,” Yelwa stated.

The N-HYPPADEC boss further assured that stronger partnerships would be pursued with state governments, local councils, and traditional institutions to enhance the commission’s projects. He also promised accountability and transparency in the management of resources to ensure that interventions reach the intended beneficiaries.

Stakeholders have welcomed his reappointment, expressing optimism that the commission under Yelwa will drive more targeted development projects that directly touch the lives of host communities while strengthening the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the power sector.
