Red Cross, Health Agencies Train 35 Data Collectors to Boost Immunisation in Anambra

Awka, Anambra State – August 8, 2025

In a strategic effort to strengthen routine immunisation across underserved areas, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, in partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, have successfully trained 35 data collectors under the second phase of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods project.

The two-day training, which concluded on Thursday at the Nigerian Red Cross Society headquarters in Awka, is aimed at enhancing vaccine delivery and disease surveillance in Anambra West, Ogbaru, and Nnewi North local government areas, regions identified with low vaccination coverage.

Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and supported by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the initiative focuses on collecting reliable data to inform routine immunisation strategies and accelerate health system responsiveness.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr Ahmad Abdulmajid, Senior Project Officer, described the project as a critical milestone in building Nigeria’s preparedness for future disease outbreaks.

“This intervention strengthens the country’s immunisation infrastructure and ensures that life-saving vaccines reach even the most underserved populations,” he said.

The six-month deployment of trained personnel is expected to drive real-time data collection, community engagement, and targeted vaccine outreach across the selected LGAs.
