Minna, September 2, 2025 – A government-organised relief material distribution exercise in Niger State descended into chaos on Tuesday as beneficiaries looted supplies meant for vulnerable households.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the event, which was aimed at providing food and essential items to cushion the effects of economic hardship, quickly spiraled out of control after crowds overwhelmed officials. In the confusion, items including rice, grains, and household necessities were forcefully taken, leaving organisers unable to maintain order.
Security personnel were reportedly deployed to the scene but struggled to contain the surging crowd. Several beneficiaries sustained minor injuries during the scramble, while many genuine recipients were left without supplies.
