Rep Saba Raises Concern Over Insecurity in Kwara, Urges President Tinubu’s Swift Intervention

A member of the House of Representatives representing Edu, Moro, and Patigi Federal Constituency in Kwara State, Hon. Ahmed Adamu Saba, has sounded the alarm over the escalating wave of insecurity ravaging his constituency, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and security agencies to act swiftly before the situation spirals further out of control.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Assistant on Digital Media, Bello Hamidu, the lawmaker expressed deep concern over the growing spate of kidnappings and armed attacks, which he described as both alarming and unacceptable. Saba highlighted recent incidents that have thrown local communities into mourning and fear, including the killing of a cattle rearer in Tashagi and the abduction of his five children by suspected bandits.

Equally disturbing, he noted, was the kidnapping of a prominent businessman and his manager in the Gbugbu area. According to the lawmaker, the victims have remained in captivity for over two weeks, with their abductors reportedly increasing ransom demands and issuing fresh threats against their lives.

Hon. Saba warned that the deteriorating security landscape is having a devastating effect on the local economy. Farmers and traders, he said, now live in constant fear, with agricultural and commercial activities grinding to a halt across the region.

“My constituents can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed,” the lawmaker lamented. “Farming, which is their major source of livelihood, has become a life-threatening venture, and running legitimate businesses is now riddled with fear.”

He condemned the attacks as cruel and inhumane, stressing that urgent intervention from the federal and state governments, as well as the Nigeria Police Force, is needed to arrest the situation. He specifically called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to deploy tactical units to restore order and reassure residents of their safety.

“I am appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our committed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Inspector General of Police to take decisive action,” he said. “The lives and livelihoods of my people are at risk. We cannot continue like this.”

While sympathising with families affected by the recent attacks, Hon. Saba assured his constituents that he remains fully engaged with relevant authorities to find lasting solutions and restore normalcy to the troubled communities.

He urged residents to remain vigilant but law-abiding, expressing optimism that with the right political will and coordinated security efforts, peace and stability would soon return to Edu, Moro, and Patigi.
