Reps Constitution Review Committee, NSA to Hold High-Level Dialogue on National Security Framework

Abuja, Nigeria – June 16, 2025
The House of Representatives Constitution Review Committee, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), is set to hold a high-level dialogue today aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.

The event, scheduled to take place in Abuja, will bring together key stakeholders from the executive, legislature, security agencies, civil society, and academia to critically examine the country’s existing security framework and recommend constitutional and policy reforms.

According to the committee, the dialogue is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Nigeria’s security institutions are better equipped — both legally and structurally — to confront the country’s growing security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, cybercrime, and communal violence.

“We are committed to driving reforms that align with Nigeria’s current realities and future aspirations,” said the Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee. “This engagement will provide an inclusive platform to develop durable and people-centered security solutions.”

The Office of the NSA also emphasized the importance of aligning constitutional provisions with evolving threats, calling for synergy between legislative reforms and operational strategies to safeguard national stability.

Outcomes from the dialogue are expected to shape legislative amendments and guide the next phase of constitutional review, with a focus on decentralizing security powers, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and improving oversight mechanisms.
