Rescheduled Special FEC Meeting in Honour of Buhari to Hold Thursday

A special meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari has been rescheduled to hold on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The session, originally slated for earlier in the week, was moved to allow key members of the federal cabinet to attend the funeral and third-day prayer rites in Daura, Katsina State. Vice President Kashim Shettima, leading a federal delegation on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, joined Governors Dikko Radda of Katsina and Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno, among others, in paying their last respects to the late Nigerian leader.

According to a presidency source, Thursday’s special FEC meeting will serve as a platform for cabinet members to reflect on the contributions of the late President Buhari to Nigeria’s political development and governance. Tributes are expected from ministers, senior government officials, and political associates who served under his administration between 2015 and 2023.

President Tinubu had earlier directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide in honour of Buhari’s passing, describing the late former leader as “a patriot who gave his life in service of the nation.”

The special FEC session is expected to begin by 10 a.m., with tight security arrangements and formal protocols in place for attending dignitaries.
