Return Airlift for Nigerian Pilgrims to Commence in Full Swing – NAHCON

Saudi Arabia, June 19, 2025

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced plans to expedite the return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia. According to the commission, all pilgrims are expected to be back in Nigeria by June 28, 2025, as efforts are being intensified to speed up the process.

In a statement released by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publication, NAHCON reassured pilgrims and their families that the commission, in collaboration with the State Pilgrims Welfare Boards and the 2025 official air carriers, is fully committed to ensuring a swift and safe return journey.

The commission noted that the delay in the return airlift is largely due to the peak season of air travel in Saudi Arabia. During this time, numerous countries are engaged in the simultaneous repatriation of their pilgrims, creating high demand for limited airport slots. These slots are managed by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria has reportedly not received enough slots to cater for the large number of its pilgrims.

To address this issue, the three major stakeholders in the return airlift operation have devised strategies aimed at securing additional flight slots. NAHCON is actively engaging Saudi authorities in discussions to achieve this goal.

Currently, FlyNas is the only airline operating two return flights daily. NAHCON disclosed plans to secure more convenient flight slots for other airlines including UMZA Aviation, Air Peace, and Max Air. With the involvement of large bodied aircraft from these airlines, the commission is optimistic that the return process will gain momentum, allowing for more daily flights and reducing the backlog of stranded pilgrims.

The commission also expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of the pilgrims and their officials, assuring them that all stakeholders are working tirelessly to ensure a prompt and successful conclusion of the return journey.

Kiin360 will continue to monitor the developments and provide timely updates on the return airlift operation.
