The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), has refuted claims circulating on social media that he approved the recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the state civil service. In a statement issued by the Acting Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown, the viral announcement was labeled as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard it.
The purported announcement claimed that the recruitment process would commence on Sunday, April 13, 2025, via an online portal and was fraudulently attributed to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Lucky Worika. However, Dr. Brown clarified that no such approval had been given by Vice Admiral Ibas and emphasized that official communication regarding employment in the civil service would only come from authorized state agencies.
In her statement, Dr. Brown reassured residents of Rivers State that appropriate information regarding recruitment would be released by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission at the proper time. She warned against relying on unverified online claims and reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency in its operations.
This denial comes amidst heightened anticipation among unemployed graduates and non-graduates in the state who had hoped for job opportunities within the civil service. While some expressed disappointment over the clarification, others commended the government for promptly addressing the misinformation.
Vice Admiral Ibas continues to focus on his administrative duties, which recently included approving appointments for administrators across Rivers State’s 23 local government areas. As residents await official updates on employment opportunities, this incident highlights the importance of verifying information before circulating it widely.
