Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that recent explosive allegations from the former Head of Service have confirmed the party’s longstanding position regarding political turmoil in the oil-rich state.
In a statement released Wednesday in Abuja, Okocha pointed to revelations made by George Nwaeke, the former Rivers State Head of Service, who has publicly accused suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, of orchestrating the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt. According to Nwaeke’s testimony, he personally witnessed the governor handing over a bag of money to finance the attack.
“Nwaeke’s televised account thoroughly validates our position that Governor Fubara is indeed the architect of the political crisis that has engulfed Rivers State,” Okocha declared. “This unrest prompted President Bola Tinubu’s swift intervention to prevent a complete breakdown of law and order across the state.”
The allegations have been vehemently denied by Fubara’s camp, with Edison Ehie dismissing Nwaeke’s claims as unfounded and suggesting the former Head of Service was not mentally stable when making these serious accusations.
Okocha, a well-known ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, emphasized the significance of Nwaeke’s former position, arguing that as Head of Service at the time of the incident, his testimony carries substantial weight and cannot be dismissed as mere speculation.
Rivers State taxpayers’ money was grossly mismanaged during severe economic hardship, an act history will not easily forget, Okocha asserted. The Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025 ruling appropriately characterized Fubara as a ‘dictator’ and yes, he absolutely was a dictator.
The APC chairman has called for security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into these allegations, insisting that all parties implicated in the bombing must face justice. He also criticized those attempting to discredit Nwaeke for speaking out.
“The Rivers APC has complete confidence that relevant security agencies will conduct themselves professionally to uncover the truth,” Okocha stated. “Attempts to undermine Nwaeke’s credibility will not deter our party from exposing the failures of Sim Fubara’s administration. We remain committed to our role as the opposition and will continue serving as vigilant watchdogs in Rivers State’s political landscape.”
This controversy surrounding the Assembly bombing continues to be a major source of political tension in Rivers State, with calls for investigations intensifying as rival factions exchange increasingly serious accusations.
