The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and subsequent arraignment of a Port Harcourt-based religious leader following allegations of inappropriate conduct.
According to information obtained that the cleric, identified only as Elijah, who serves as General Overseer of a new-generation church in the state capital, was taken into custody after digital evidence allegedly showing him in a compromising situation began circulating.
Sources familiar with the case revealed that the Octopus Strike Force, a specialized unit of the Rivers State Police Command, initiated an investigation after obtaining the digital content. Following intelligence gathering, officers reportedly tracked the pastor to one of his regular locations where he was apprehended.
“Officers acted on credible intelligence to effect the arrest,” a source who requested anonymity told our correspondent.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly provided statements regarding similar past behaviors involving both adults and minors within and outside Port Harcourt, according to sources close to the investigation.
Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed both the arrest and court arraignment.
“Yes, I can confirm the pastor’s arrest. He is in custody, and investigations are ongoing. In fact, he has already been charged to court,” SP Iringe-Koko stated.
The case highlights ongoing enforcement actions by Rivers State authorities against alleged violations of Nigeria’s laws regarding sexual conduct. Legal proceedings are now underway as the suspect faces the judicial process.
