Port Harcourt, Nigeria – June 14, 2025
The Rivers State National Assembly caucus has issued a stern warning to Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, over what it described as unwarranted interference in the internal affairs of Rivers State.
The lawmakers expressed disapproval of Senator Dickson’s recent remarks criticising President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address, which the caucus said were laced with divisive undertones and veiled attacks on the political stability of Rivers State.
In a statement jointly signed by members of the caucus, the lawmakers cautioned Senator Dickson to refrain from making comments that could fuel tension or mislead the public regarding the political situation in Rivers.
“We advise Senator Dickson to focus on the responsibilities of his senatorial district in Bayelsa and desist from meddling in the affairs of Rivers State,” the statement read. “His recent comments are not only unpatriotic but also detrimental to the spirit of national unity and inter-state respect.”
The caucus reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s leadership and praised the content of his Democracy Day address, describing it as a “visionary blueprint for national unity and development.”
Senator Dickson is yet to respond publicly to the warning at the time of this report.
