Port Harcourt, Rivers State | September 18, 2025
The Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened its plenary session today, 18 September 2025, at the Assembly Residential Complex in Port Harcourt, following the lifting of a six-month state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu.
The emergency, declared on 18 March 2025 in response to a political crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state legislature, had suspended all legislative activities in the state. During this period, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas served as the state administrator.
Under the leadership of Speaker Martins Amaewhule, lawmakers adopted six resolutions aimed at restoring governance and stability. These included requesting the governor to submit a list of commissioner nominees, initiating an appropriation law for the remainder of the year, investigating expenditures during the emergency, and reviewing outdated legislations.
Residents and political observers have welcomed the resumption of legislative activities, viewing it as a key step toward restoring normal governance in Rivers State.
