Roads to Rebirth: Governor Ododo Leverages Multilateral Partnerships to Transform Infrastructure in Kogi State

LOKOJA — In a determined push to modernise transportation networks and boost economic activity, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, is forging strategic multilateral partnerships aimed at accelerating the rehabilitation and construction of key road infrastructure across the state.

The administration’s road transformation initiative — tagged “Roads to Rebirth” — is being implemented through a mix of domestic investment and international cooperation, with support from development agencies such as the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), and other bilateral partners.

According to the Kogi State Ministry of Works and Housing, the government has already commenced work on over 300 kilometers of priority roads spanning rural, urban, and interstate routes, with the goal of enhancing trade, mobility, and access to social services.

Governor Ododo, speaking during a recent project inspection in Dekina and Okene, emphasised that the effort goes beyond road construction. “This is about transforming lives. Roads connect people to markets, schools, hospitals, and opportunities,” he said. “We are aligning with partners who share our vision for durable, inclusive infrastructure.”

Key projects include the Lokoja-Ganaja-Ajaokuta industrial corridor, the Ankpa-Abejukolo-Omala access road, and multiple feeder roads linking agricultural hubs to urban centres. Several of these roads are being developed with hybrid financing models involving grants, concessional loans, and public-private partnerships.

Stakeholders in the transport, construction, and commerce sectors have commended the initiative, noting that improved road access will reduce travel time, cut post-harvest losses, and attract investment into underdeveloped areas of the state.

Meanwhile, Kogi State’s Infrastructure Monitoring Team says work is on track and quality assurance protocols are being enforced in line with global engineering standards.
