KYIV / ZAPORIZHIA, Ukraine — August 30, 2025
A large-scale overnight Russian missile and drone attack struck central and southeastern Ukraine, killing at least one person and injuring dozens, Ukrainian authorities confirmed. Zaporizhia was among the hardest-hit regions, with the State Emergency Service reporting extensive damage to homes, businesses, and municipal infrastructure. Power outages left tens of thousands temporarily without electricity.
Regional officials said at least one fatality and multiple injuries were recorded in Zaporizhia, while further casualties were reported across other targeted areas. Ukraine’s Air Force stated that air defenses intercepted many of the incoming missiles and drones, though several penetrated and caused destruction on the ground.
In a separate development, Ukraine’s military announced overnight strikes on two Russian oil refineries in Krasnodar and Syzran, claiming to have set facilities ablaze. Russian regional authorities acknowledged fires at refinery sites, though the scale of damage has not been independently verified.
Casualty figures and damage assessments remain provisional as emergency services continue rescue and recovery operations. Both Ukrainian and Russian military claims are still subject to independent confirmation.
