Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on public sector accountants to continuously enhance their professional skills to meet the demands of modern financial management and promote sustainable economic development.
The governor made this appeal while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), held in Ikeja, Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that in a fast-evolving global economy, public accountants play a pivotal role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient resource utilisation across government institutions. He urged them to embrace innovation, particularly in digital financial systems, to enhance performance and service delivery.
“As custodians of public funds, you are critical to sustaining the confidence of citizens in government. The need for accuracy, integrity, and professionalism in financial reporting has never been more important. I encourage you to embrace continuous training and technological innovation to keep pace with global standards,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor further noted that Lagos State, under his administration, has adopted several reforms in financial management and budgeting processes, including the deployment of digital accounting tools and performance-based budgeting frameworks.
President of ANAN, Dr. James Neminebor, commended the Lagos State Government for its financial prudence and commitment to professional development. He assured that the association remains committed to promoting ethical accounting practices and supporting the government in achieving its development goals.
The conference brought together leading financial experts, government officials, and accountants from across Nigeria, focusing on the theme, “Building a Sustainable Financial Future Through Professional Excellence.”
