Lagos, July 18, 2025 —
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has officially commissioned a community radio station and a newly constructed ultra-modern market in Mushin Local Government Area, as part of efforts to enhance local development and boost grassroots communication and commerce.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held on Thursday in Mushin, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the dual projects as milestones in the state government’s commitment to inclusive governance, improved local infrastructure, and empowerment of residents through better access to information and economic opportunities.
The new radio station, Mushin FM 88.7, is expected to serve as a platform for community engagement, local news dissemination, youth talent promotion, and civic education. The Governor stressed that empowering communities with their own voice through radio will foster participatory governance and social cohesion.
“Communication is power. With Mushin FM, the people of Mushin now have a dedicated platform to share their stories, broadcast their challenges, and celebrate their achievements. This is not just a radio station; it’s a tool for development,” Sanwo-Olu said.
On the newly opened Mushin Ultra-Modern Market, the Governor praised the council authorities for delivering a well-planned, safe, and accessible commercial hub that aligns with the state’s master plan for urban renewal and economic revitalisation.
The market features over 400 lock-up shops, modern sanitation facilities, adequate parking spaces, and security infrastructure aimed at creating a conducive environment for traders and shoppers.
Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting the vision of transforming Mushin into a model urban community. He noted that the two projects will generate employment, promote small businesses, and deepen the sense of pride among residents.
Residents and stakeholders present at the event commended the Governor for prioritising grassroots development and for fulfilling his promise to make Lagos a 21st-century economy driven by innovation, inclusion, and infrastructure.
