Sanwo-Olu Commissions Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Mushin, Targets $250m Export, 10,000 Jobs

August 24, 2025 — Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially commissioned the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Mushin, a state-backed industrial facility expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs and boost Nigeria’s leather exports with an estimated $250 million annual turnover once fully operational.

Speaking at the inauguration on Friday, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the hub as a strategic investment in skills, innovation, and enterprise, noting that it would not only expand job opportunities but also consolidate Lagos’ status as the commercial hub of West Africa. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the state’s broader economic diversification agenda and industrialization blueprint.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who the hub is named after, praised the project as a symbol of creativity and resilience, commending Lagos for transforming local challenges into growth opportunities. She expressed confidence that the facility would empower young entrepreneurs, particularly in the small and medium-scale sector, while enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global leather market.

Industry stakeholders at the event hailed the Mushin leather hub as a game-changing model for other states, stressing that it will drive value addition across the leather production chain, reduce dependence on imported finished goods, and position Nigeria as a leading player in Africa’s fashion and manufacturing industries.
