In furtherance of its commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and delivering inclusive governance, the Lagos State Government has disbursed financial assistance to 250 beneficiaries under the “Sanwo-Olu Listens” Social Welfare Programme.
The beneficiaries, drawn from across the five divisions of Lagos, Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe, received cheques in various amounts based on individual needs and verified petitions submitted to the Governor’s Office.
At the symbolic presentation ceremony held at the State Secretariat, Alausa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, said the initiative is a direct response to the numerous appeals received from citizens seeking medical aid, educational support, business revival, and welfare assistance.
“This intervention reflects the empathy and responsiveness of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to the plight of residents. The programme ensures that no genuine case is ignored, especially where lives and livelihoods are at stake,” Adebowale stated.
She added that each request underwent a thorough verification process to ensure transparency and accountability in fund disbursement.
Several recipients, including widows, persons with disabilities, and small business owners, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor for the timely intervention.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Titi Ajayi, who received support to pay for a major surgery, said:
“I had lost hope until I wrote to the governor. Today, I have my cheque and my life back. God bless Governor Sanwo-Olu.”
The “Sanwo-Olu Listens” programme, launched in 2021, has impacted over 4,000 Lagosians through financial aid, skill acquisition sponsorship, and empowerment tools, underscoring the state government’s commitment to people-centered governance.
The Lagos State Office of Civic Engagement encouraged more residents to make use of available communication channels to engage the government on pressing needs.
