Sanwo-Olu Unveils ₦500 Billion Produce for Lagos Offtake Guarantee Fund

LAGOS, July 24, 2025 – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched a landmark ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund under the ‘Produce for Lagos’ initiative, aimed at boosting food security, supporting local agriculture, and strengthening the state’s supply chain.

Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the fund as a strategic intervention to guarantee the offtake of agricultural produce cultivated within Nigeria for consumption in Lagos, the country’s largest food market. The initiative is expected to stimulate agribusiness growth, reduce post-harvest losses, and create sustainable livelihoods for farmers across the country.

The fund will serve as a financial commitment by the state to purchase agro-products from local producers, thereby ensuring market access and price stability. It also seeks to reduce the reliance on food imports and drive self-sufficiency through a robust partnership with producers, aggregators, logistics providers, and financial institutions.

The ‘Produce for Lagos’ programme is part of the state’s broader agricultural transformation strategy to secure food availability, support backward integration, and promote agro-industrial development. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that with Lagos consuming over 50 percent of food imported into Nigeria, it is imperative for the state to lead in efforts to localize and stabilize food supply.

Stakeholders across the agriculture value chain, including financial institutions, farmers’ cooperatives, logistics experts, and food processors, have lauded the initiative, describing it as a bold step toward achieving food sovereignty and economic empowerment.
