Sanwo-Olu Urges Lagosians to Vote in July 12 Local Government Elections

Lagos, July 11, 2025 — Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu has called on eligible voters across the state to participate fully in the local government elections scheduled for July 12, highlighting the importance of grassroots democracy and community development.

In a statement released on Friday, the governor described the polls as an opportunity for Lagosians to “shape the leadership of their local councils by voting for chairmen and councillors who will represent their interests and drive development at the community level”  .

He stressed that the local councils, as the closest tier of government to the people, play “a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development”  .

Sanwo‑Olu also urged voters to exercise their civic duty peacefully, noting: “This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility.”  

To ensure a secure voting environment, he announced that law enforcement agencies have been “strategically deployed across all polling units and communities” to protect voters and electoral officers. He also confirmed that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) is fully prepared for the polls  .

Sanwo‑Olu called on political stakeholders to maintain decorum, urging youths to avoid violence and act as “ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility.”  

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the election remains “free, fair, and credible,” underscoring the importance of strong civic participation in strengthening community governance.
